ARE ROBOTS REPLACING HUMANS?

Many people when they hear about robots, they conceptualize human-like machines that are here to replace humans in the job market and even in the simple day to day tasks. One thing for certain is that robots are here to stay with us.
But first, what are robots?
Robots are automated machines that operate independently and accomplish tasks that are meant to be done by man. For them to accomplish the tasks successfully, human supervision is required.
Most of us believe that robots always resemble humans, but that is not the case. Some do and others do not.
What are some of the applications of robots?
Robots applications have been evident in the following sectors: health care. The health care robots assist in surgeries, physical therapies and even during the covid-19 period robots, drones, were used to deliver medications to patients at home.
homelife. In our homes, cleaning is now being done by robots. An example is the roomba, that is being used to vacuum floors
manufacturing. Automobile industries were among the first industries to replace human labor with robots. The robots are used in automobile assembly lines, used in arc welding, steel cutting and even food packaging.
military. In the evolving world, war is evolving into modern warfare. That means the risk of soldiers dying is getting higher due to the use of sophisticated weapons. Therefore, robots are being used to accomplish some of the dangerous tasks such as unmanned bombing drones that do not need a pilot to fly. Other robots include centaur used to detect mines and improvised explosive devices, MUTT which are used to carry the heavy soldier's gears.
Entertainment. Robots are now being programmed to satisfy human pleasures. Examples of such are toy robots, toy dogs.

Should we worry that in the future robots will overcome humans and take over?
To some extent, we should be worried because with increased implementation of robots in our daily life, we are likely to lose many jobs especially in the manufacturing industries due to automation. However, robots are likely to increase economic growth and create new career opportunities.
